Bye readers!

Sir Robert Geoffrey Edwards

Sir Robert Geoffrey Edwards,  is a British physiologist and pioneer in reproductive medicine and in-vitro fertilisation in particular.  He was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for the development of in vitro fertilization".

Since child he liked to experiment and really liked science. When he was young he started with his first important experiments and he achieved a lot of prizes. We also have to say that he studied in different places.

In 1968 he achieved fertilisation of a human egg in the laboratory and started to collaborate with Patrick Steptoe (a gynecologic from Oldham). Edwards developed human culture media to allow the fertilisation and early embryo culture.

After he had investigated many times the obulo and spermatozoon he did his first vitro fertilization in 1971 but, it failed. He stayed investying another 7 years and after a lot of hours working he had succed with the in vitro fertilization in 1978. He started working like a teacher and he was one for many years.

In 2010 about 4 million children have been born by IVF, with approximately 170,000 coming from donated oocyte and embryos.

Edwards and Steptoe founded the Bourn Hall Clinic as a place to advance their work and train new specialists. Edwards continued a career as a scientist and an editor  of medical journals.

Personally I think that Robert is a great men, because he had help to a lot of people to have a child. Nowadays also, we are using this fantastic metod.
